Selecting a Dance Floor Size

One of the best ways to set the stage for a memorable night, no matter what type of party you’re throwing, is to provide your guests with a dance floor and great music! If your venue does not already have one, renting a dance floor is the perfect upgrade to complete the look of any party! We know that planning can be challenging and confusing at times, especially when it comes to determining a dance floor size– but no worries, we are here to help! Follow these simple steps to determine what will work best at your event:

Step 1. Create a Layout.  You will want to decide where the dancing will take place. The best way to determine the arrangement of your event is to create a diagram of the space, and be sure you have accurate measurements.  Some venues have a designated space for a dance floor, and others are wide open for you to use your imagination. Factors to keep in mind may include space for your music (dj or ipod table), appropriate spacing between tables and dance floor to ensure a clear flow of guest traffic, and be sure to consider structural obstacles like poles or steps.

Step 2. Choose a Style. One of the most enjoyable aspects of planning an event is choosing the décor! If you feel your space needs a little something extra, consider adding a dance floor to bring your whole theme together. A popular choice for most events is our wood parquet. The wooden floor offers an elegant look and a timeless feel. They offer stability, durability, and work great in any indoor space or even outside under an American Party Rentals tent!  Another great option is the black and white dancefloor. The fun thing about this dance floor is that it is extremely versatile. If you are going for a more modern look and feel, you can dress it up with ultra hip colored lighting or keep it simple and elegant by itself.

Step 3. Determine a Size. This step gets a little tricky, since there are many factors that go into choosing a size. Every event is unique, from the type of guests attending to the event space itself. Although, now that you have completed step 1, you know how much space you have available to work with. The basic rule of thumb to keep in mind is that, usually, 50% of your guests will dance at one time. That being said, you know your guests best—consider what type of crowd will be attending and if you think they will utilize the dance floor. If the answer is no, maybe a dance floor that will accommodate about 30%-40% of your guests at one time will best for you.
